Dolphin’s Nose view point is a tourist spot located 10 kms from Coonoor. This spectacular viewpoint is located 1000 feet above sea level. The tip of the peak resembles a dolphin’s nose, hence the name Dolphin’s Nose. It is an enormous rock formation that is entirely unique. This is one of the best viewpoints to gaze at the inexplicable charm of the hill station. One can catch a magnificent view of Catherine falls cascading down the hilly terrain from Dolphin’s nose viewpoint. The drive up to the Dolphin’s nose is in itself a unique experience with hairpin turns and tea plantations along the valley. You can also smell the freshness of eucalyptus and feel the chill of Ooty’s cool breeze as you ascend the mountain. Once you reach the peak, find yourself amazed with the beautiful scenery all around. On a lucky day, with no much mists and fog, you can see the beautiful landscapes of Coonoor and nearby valleys and mountains. If you want to get a better view, don’t forget to carry a pair of binoculars.
On the way to Dolphin’s Nose, tourists can also visit Lamb’s Rock in Coonoor. This place is named after the collector of the place Captain Lamb. Green hills, cool breeze and mist make the visit to both the locations worthwhile. Law’s Fall is yet another scenic drive and a popular picnic spot, 7 km from Coonoor. Mettupalayam Droog Fort, 15 km from Coonoor, is another place with awesome views.
No entry fees. Best view can be caught by noon when the mist clears. The expected visit duration is around 1 hour. The viewpoint is open to visitors all days of the week from 8 am to 6 pm. Small tea stalls and kiosks are available where visitors can buy snacks, spices, oil and tea leaves.
